The Derrickman works above the rig floor on a platform called a tubing board (also known as a monkeyboard or racking board). From there, they guide lenths of tubing, instruments and tools in and out of the well, and they steady items that other crew members are connecting or disconnecting.
Derrickman duties include, but are not limited to:
- Complete work in tubing board, as well as rod basket
- Operate pump and tank
- Assist Rig Manager and Operator in delegating tasks and training Floorhands
- Reading and recording well pressures and fluid pumped down well, as well as keeping a running total of fluid on location
Minimum Requirements:
- H2S Certificate
- First Aid Certificate
- Fall Rescue Certificate
- Fall Protection Certificate
